Refer Top High School Juniors for YLS 2023!

 

Dear Colleague,
 

I am writing today to share that the 2023 Young Leaders Summit (YLS) student application is now available for high school juniors!

We encourage you to share this announcement with all high-achieving, low-income, high school juniors in your network who would benefit from this free college empowerment summer program. High school juniors of all racial & ethnic backgrounds that meet the eligibility requirements listed below are encouraged to apply.

You can also complete the YLS referral form, which will ensure we send email reminders directly to the student, encouraging them to apply.

The deadline to refer students is Friday, March 31, 2023, 5:00 PM PT.

The application deadline for students is Friday, April 7, 2023, 5:00 PM PT.

The 2023 Young Leaders Summit (YLS) Application is Now Open!

Greetings Panfilo,

  • Are you a high-achieving high school junior and student leader?
  • Are you interested in attending a highly-rated, college empowerment summer program that will prepare you to successfully apply to your dream universities next year?
  • Are you eager to learn more about scholarships and financial aid, and how to make college affordable for you and your family?
  • Are you looking forward to networking with high-achieving peers from throughout the country, supportive mentors, and admission professionals from top universities?

If so, the Young Leaders Summit (YLS) is for you!

YLS is a free summer program that prepares high-achieving high school juniors to successfully apply to their dream colleges and universities, and gain access to financial aid.

You were identified as a competitive applicant for this highly-selective summer program, because of your strong academic performance and your College Board profile. 

The 2023 YLS program will be hosted at the University of Southern California (USC)

It is entirely FREE for students to apply and participate in YLS:

  • YLS pays for your roundtrip airfare transportation, from your city to Los Angeles, CA
  • YLS and USC provide you with free on-campus housing: 5 days, within the YLS dorm
  • YLS and USC provide all meals on-campus and program materials
  • YLS Staff picks up all YLS students at LAX airport and provides free roundtrip transportation to USC

The Young Leaders Summit (YLS), presented by the Youth Leadership Consortium (YLC), is a free, multi-day, college empowerment program for a diverse cohort of high-achieving, low-income, high school juniors, selected through a competitive application process. It is designed to give these young leaders the practical tools they need to successfully apply to top universities, have full access to scholarship and financial aid opportunities, and set a course for academic and career success

YLS Dates and Location:

YLS 2023 has two components, and students are required to fully attend both:

  • Virtual component via zoom (2 days)
  • Followed by an in-person component at USC (5 days) a couple of weeks later

IMPORTANT: To be eligible to participate in the 5-day in-person component of the program, students must have fully participated in the 2-day virtual component.

VIRTUAL component:

  • Orientation & Code of Conduct Overview: Wednesday, May 24, 2023, 4:00 PM – 5:15 PM Pacific Time
  • Virtual YLS: Saturday, June 3, 2023 & Sunday, June 4, 2023, 8:00 AM – 6:30 PM Pacific Time each day (with short breaks throughout the day)

IN-PERSON component:

  • When: Wednesday, August 2, 2023 – Sunday, August 6, 2023
  • Where: University of Southern California (USC) - all expenses paid by YLS, including roundtrip airfare from your city to Los Angeles, CA

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Students of all racial & ethnic backgrounds are encouraged to apply
  • Current high school junior (Class of 2024)
  • Must have an unweighted cumulative GPA above a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or above an 80 on a 100-point scale
  • Comes from a low-income background, as defined by predicted Pell eligibility, after completing the “Federal Student Aid Estimator” (example of results here)
  • Must be a US Citizen, Permanent Legal Resident, or DACA
  • Currently attends high school in the United States or a U.S. territory
  • Plan to enroll full-time in a four-year degree program, at a US accredited, not-for-profit, private or public college or university after high school graduation.
  • Upon acceptance into the program, you will be required to verify that you are fully vaccinated**

The Youth Leadership Consortium (YLC), is a partnership, led by the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, of organizations such as the American Indian College Fund, APIA Scholars, College Board, College Greenlight, Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, Jack and Jill Foundation, Jack Kent Cooke Foundation, Native Forward Scholars Fund, The Steve Fund, and HSF, brought together by the mission to provide students and families of all backgrounds and ethnicities with the knowledge and resources to successfully complete a higher education.
